Nanny Definitions

A Nanny in general is a person caring for children in a emplyer’s home.
Duties can include all tasks related to care of the children such as domastc tasks for the children’s rooms, clothing, shopping and organizing events.
They can be hired on a live-in or live-out basis, full-time or part-time.

A Baby-Sitter is a person that cares for children on an irregular basis. Often done by neighboring childs to earn a little money.

An Au Pair is a Foreign national who comes to the United States for up to a year to experience American life in a family. Tasks usually include babysitting, help with homework, playing with the children and more. Previous child care experience is not required.

A Mother’s Helper is a person supporting one of the parents with child care and domestic duties. It does not require previous child care experience. Can be full time, live-in or live-out.

A Nursery Nurse much like a nanny has had special child care training training and is responsible for all tasks related to child care. Title used in Great Britain.

A Governess is a person usually responsible for the education of the children under her supervision. Can be part-time or full-time.
